Hosea Ballou Williams

Hosea Ballou Williams was born January 18, 1836 in VT and died January 24, 1910 (at around 74 years old) in Houston, Texas. He married Cora Green June 22, 1882 in Dayton, IL, which is where he popped up in the 1880 Census. The Green Family was a prominent family in Illinois owning a paper mill and probably a lot more as they are a founding family of Ottawa and Dayton Illinois. Around 1880 Hosea was a border in another family's home (probably a family friend from VT - the same last name he bordered with shows up as a witness on their marriage certificate). He was listed as a brick and tile manufacturer in an early census. It would appear that he moved from VT to IL working as a brick & tile manufacturer "married the bosses daughter" and then became owner of his own paper mill. Cora gave him two children: Frank Roger Williams "Frankie" and Ethel Williams. She died January 18, 1894 at only 31 years old. There were two obituaries written for her January 20, 1894 and February 17, 1894. I have already requested a copy of these. They were a wealthy family and had many ties on her side in Illinois. Hosea left Illinois sometime after 1894. He sold his business and holdings, then moved with his 2 children (Frank Roger & Ethel Williams) to Houston, Texas. Hosea died in 1910 in Houston Heights, Texas.

Frank Sr. and Ethel moved him back to IL to be buried next to Cora.
Frank paid for the cemetery plots and Ethel paid for the perpetual care.
